Hunter Valley

On Easter monday I went to Hunter Valley with mum and Y. It's good to have a bit of outdoor experience and see more of Australia. I've been to every states in Australia but mostly for business.

This is my first Hunter Valley experience and to be honest I was quite excited about it. Not that I'm big on wines but it's fun to learn something new.

We left Sydney at about 8.30am northbound via F3 Freeway. It was a 2.5 hours drive to Hunter Valley and weather condition wasn't too nice. Heavy rain slows the traffic but has little impact on my driving hehe... I stayed on the limit most of the time and a few times over it (after all there's no cruise control in my Pug). The GPS allows me to 'see' the road better and from there I can determine which lane I should be in before entering a curve. So yeah, it was fun.

Our first spot is the Hunter Valley Garden. It was beautiful and obviously something I didn't expect to find in vineyards area. I thought here in HV, it's all about wineries and vineyards.

Mum and Y seems to enjoy being there. We took lots of pics - so many in fact, my battery gave me a low bat indication once we're done in HVG.

You are welcome to view the photos in my photo album.

Next step is the wineries. We decided to go to three wineries that was closest to HVG. This is because we planned to go to The Entrance on the way back to Sydney. The three wineries are:

  • McGuigan - www.mcguiganwines.com.au
One of the more traditional wineries. We were hoping to catch the tour but I missed the line on the brochure where it says "Tour at 12 noon". Did a few wine tasting and bought a few bottles (yes, the spirit is high)
  • Tempus Two - www.tempustwo.com.au
From the daughter of McGuigan comes Tempus Two. This contemporary winery offers modern interior and packaging without losing the traditional flavour. It's like going to a hip bar in sydney and instead of serving vodka or martini, they are serving wine. By this time my battery went flat. Sorry no pics folks.
  • Brokenwood - www.brokenwood.com.au
Recommended by someone working on the same floor as me, This winery offers a more traditional decor and have that irish pub feeling. We really don't know what to have here and the wine tasting crew was all too busy so we didn't spend much time there.
From there we went to The Entrance hoping to catch a glimpse of some pelicans. Unfortunately pelican feeding was at 3.30pm. A quick stroll around The Entrance and we're off to Sydney.

On the way back we had dinner at Wagamama Parramatta, a supposedly japanese fusion noodle bar. I was quite disappointed with the lack of japanese flavour in all the food we ordered (Yes, we ordered only the most popular dishes). One of the noodle looks like a laksa and the Chilli Beef Noodle Soup tastes quite identical to a vietnamese pho beef noodle soup.

Then it's off to home. Must work the next day.
