My Vista Experience: Snipping Tools

Vista now comes with a Snipping Tools for screen capture. Previously this is only available on Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. As you’d expect, this is not the same as a normal print screen keystroke. To run the tools simply go to Start and type “snip”. I’m still trying to get used to this method of running an app.

The Snipping Tools allows you to select common types of captures: Screen, Rectangle, Window and Free-form. Nothing new here for those who have been using SnagIt, FullShot, or other similar screen capture utility.

This tool also allows you to make some comments using the pen and highlighters tools then send your screen capture via email.

Screen captures can also be saved in GIF, JPG or PNG format. I suspect the .MHT file format is useful for capturing a web page.

Albeit basic, Snipping Tools is a handy built-in utility that can solve a lot of people’s problem when it come to screen capture without the need for installing or purchasing a third party app.
